This was an interesting week at Empire Chrome. We added a fourth register and another computer behind-the-scenes to help with shipping and inventory on Monday, plus it was Michael’s wife Christine’s first day at work! When we weren’t trying to set up new computers, we were restocking the shelves – only to turn right around and re-pack the stock into new boxes to be shipped out to our customers. 2012 is shaping up to be another record-smashing sales year for us – all thanks to you folks! Thanks for making what we do possible!
As usual, all this hullabaloo kind of got in the way of my attempt to keep up with what’s new in the world of trucking, but I did manage to squeeze in a little reading.
- Hino trucks, a company with a plant right here in West Memphis, was honored this week for their commitment to biodiesel!
- We read a few weeks ago about some of the great smartphone apps available for truck drivers, and now we have a new one to add to the list. This one is aimed to help dispatch and maintenance staff keep track of the wear-and-tear on their fleet’s many, many tires.
- Those of us travelling on 4 wheels have a tendency to be annoyed when a big rig is blocking us on the interstate. But every now and then, truckers are able to use their size to help keep us protected from other drivers. This story isn’t the first time a trucker has held traffic back to avoid a major, potentially deadly collision, but the driver still deserves our kudos!
- Lastly, it seems that there has been an increase in the number of trucking companies that have been prosecuted or shut down for violating federal regulations. Do you think the government is doing a better job keeping our roads safe?
That’s it for this week. Until next time – don’t drive an ugly truck!
